Together for Children
Together for Children (TFC) is a preventative approach to break the cycle of youth violence in Miami-Dade. It is the long-term sustainable strategy to address the root causes of youth violence. TFC is a neighborhood-driven community coalition of governmental, public, private, and not-for profit entities in Miami-Dade working hand-in-hand to identify youth at highest risk and align services for youth and their families by leveraging community resources. This has become an ongoing community project for which FNEI served as the initial fiduciary agent. For more information please visit: https://www.togetherforchildren.org
SAT Bootcamp
Twenty rising seniors at Miami Norland Senior High School were selected to participate in the Eager to Achieve Summer Program, a grant-funded program by The Cornelia Foundation. This summer program allowed students access to weekly SAT prep with Princeton Review, individual mentoring sessions, group college access activities, team challenges, and college and scholarship application preparation. Students were able to write their personal statements, explore colleges and universities, focus on time management skills, participate in scholarship search techniques, and set goals for improving their SAT scores. These rising seniors were able to get a jump start on their college application process through the support of their teacher mentors and administrators. This type of support is not usually readily available to underserved students, who often enter their senior year without proper preparation or knowledge of how to begin the college search/application process.
Online Music Program
This program is part of the typical K-12 curriculum as well as the Instructional Continuity Plan for students to receive music instruction remotely. The curriculum helps teachers learn how to support the development of the whole child through music with a focus on the much-needed development of soft skills such as: self-awareness, relationship skills, personal safety, and more. Teachers can also use the online system to provide brief lessons consisting of creative songs and interactive activities to supercharge students’ development of social and emotional skills. FNEI’s efforts to secure funding from our generous donor, Mr. Daniel Lewis (Global Village Charitable Trust), helped jumpstart this program.
